Alfonso Gonzalez Jr.(b. 1989, active Los Angeles) is a contemporary painter whose Mexican heritage and experiences growing up in East Los Angeles have infused his artwork with rich symbolism and imagery, drawing upon elements of mythology, spirituality, and traditional craftsmanship. His father was a commercial street sign painter and as a boy the artist grew up surrounded by murals, airbrush techniques and LA car culture.
Gonzalez Jr. attended Los Angeles Trade Tech College for sign graphics, moved to San Francisco after graduation, and in 2018, after six years as a professional sign painter, decided to invest fully in his artistic career. He is part of a new generation of Mexican-American artists making their mark in Southern California. His artwork has been included in numerous group exhibitions at galleries across the country and his first solo exhibition was in 2022 with Matthew Brown Gallery in Los Angeles. Read more
