Lin Guocheng is a Chinese artist known best for his imaginative and intricate pen-and-ink landscapes. He studied at the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, and since 2004 has been widely exhibited. Currently living and working in Beijing and Kunming, his unique works embrace both Eastern and Western traditions to engage with the grinding gears of integration which emerge as those two systems collide. In his works, classical Chinese landscapes are juxtaposed with structured Western architectural elements. In these unbounded paintings, all things are possible, and time and space warp around angled planes. Through the rich visuals which draw inspiration as much from Dürer’s etchings as classical Chinese ink paintings, Lin’s repetitively dense pen strokes become vital, unpredictable, and full of room for imagination, giving the final works spontaneity, momentum, and enticingly intricate details.
Lin’s work has been featured in exhibitions at the David Aaron Gallery, London; the Chinese Cultural Center, Malta; Galerie Dumonteil, Paris and Shanghai; 3812 Gallery, Hong Kong; Today Art Museum, Beijing, among others. His work is featured in the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago; the HSBC Art Collection, Hong Kong; and MGM Fine Arts Collection, Macau. Lin is represented by Alisan Fine Arts Limited. Read more
