Patrick Martinez's (b. 1980, active Los Angeles) work spans painting, collage, and neon sign art, with his signature mixed-media landscape paintings standing out. These works incorporate a variety of found objects from his local Los Angeles and explore the impact of geographical location and socio-economic status on personal identity and experience.
By addressing the various aspects of loss—personal, community, and cultural—Martinez examines their influence on society. Martinez's dedication to tackling complex social issues remains relevant in his various bodies of work. Martinez’s work is in the permanent collections of major institutions including the Broad Museum, CA; Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, AR; the Rubell Museum, FL and the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY, where a series of ten neon artworks welcomed visitors at the entrance of the museum in 2023. Martinez is currently represented by Charlie James Gallery in Los Angeles, CA. Read more
