Christine Tien Wang is a contemporary painter in San Francisco. Born in Washington, D.C., she studied at The Cooper Union and at UCLA. Her intricate photorealistic paintings recreate the language and imagery of internet memes to critique the greed of the increasingly digital world. Her use of traditional oil painting contrasts with the speed of the digital world that dominates our daily lives, subtly challenging its growing influence.
Wang's work has been exhibited at night Gallery, Los Angeles; The Hole, New York; Galerie Nagel Draxler, Cologne and Berlin; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Busan; Abigail Ogilvy, Chicago, and many others. Her work is in the permanent collection of Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Groeninghe Art Collection, Belgium. Wang is represented by Ever Gold [Projects] in San Francisco, Night Gallery in Los Angeles and Galerie Nagel Draxler in Cologne and Berlin. Wang is currently Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing at California College of Art. Read more
