Devin B. Johnson (b. 1992, active New York City), a Southern California native, received his MA in Fine Arts from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Johnson’s soft oil paintings are expressions of his life reimagined through memory, observation, and raw feeling. He draws inspiration from found and captured images and textures which he then digitally collages and manipulates to create intimate scenes that invite the viewer to participate in.
The artist has self-described his paintings as “subjective judgements of beauty, without having to explain why.” Johnson’s work is included in public collections such as the Hammer Museum; Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA); Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, Ohio; Pond Society, Shanghai; Marval Collection, Milan; and the Rubell Museum, Miami. Most recently, Johnson was named the 2023 Artist-in-Residence at Fountainhead, Miami, a Forbes 30 Under 30 Art and Design (2022) awardee, and he was included in Cultured Magazine’s selection of “Young Artists in 2021.” Read more
