Liang Hao’s work as a painter examines the reflective power of light and form to create works that examine space and the placement of the human form within it. After graduating from the Academy of Arts & Design at Tsinghua University, Beijing, Liang began to develop his artistic practice. Revolving around concepts of reassembly and recontextualization, his work incorporates human elements with fragments of the machine, creating symbolic and metaphoric relationships and narratives. His reflective surfaces express his interest in the mirror on a material level, while his fragmental representations of hands, faces, and the human form create a more metaphoric reflection of the viewer. The technicality of the bones and tendons in the hand are juxtaposed with the technology that creates chrome and mirror. Highly complex in their execution and ideas, yet beautifully simple, Liang’s work asks the viewer to examine their place within the folds of time, space, and material.
Liang has been exhibited at 10 Chancery Lane Gallery, Hong Kong; Line Gallery, Beijing; White Rabbit Gallery, Australia; Objective Gallery, Shanghai and New York; and Bank MAB Society, Shanghai; among others, as well as at the Yuan Museum, Beijing. He has been shortlisted for the John Moores Painting Prize in both 2018 and 2016. Read more
