Yuri Yuan is a contemporary painter whose intimate paintings have a gauzy, surrealistic quality. Born in China, Yuan grew up in Singapore, attended college in Chicago, earned an MFA at Columbia University in 2021, and is currently based in New York. Her paintings explore existentialist themes of longing and loss, with a personal symbolism that melds into magical realism.
Yuan is represented by Alexander Berggruen and Make Room Gallery. Her work has also been included in group exhibitions at, and in the permanent collection of, the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, and the Columbus Museum of Art, Ohio.
