Zheng Chongbin (b. 1961, active San Francisco and Shanghai) is a prominent Chinese-American contemporary artist who has skillfully integrated the ancient art of Chinese ink painting with Western abstract techniques throughout his four-decade long career. Born in Shanghai, he attended the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts to study Chinese Paintings (now known as the China Academy of Fine Art), where he taught for four years after graduating in 1984. Following his early success, Zheng moved to California in 1988, earning an MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute.
He established residency in the Bay Area in the 1990s. His innovative approach encompasses painting, installations, and video art, all of which delve into the interplay between natural phenomena and human cognition, challenging traditional boundaries through a focus on materiality and the fluidity of form.
